Social Adversity and Functioning preluding Psychosis (SAFE-P)

Many people who experience psychosis retrospectively report stressful life events and social difficulties before illness-onset. In order to better understand this, we conducted an interview study with those affected. The goal of the study was to find out how the phase of life (especially social functioning) before the psychotic episode was experienced and which earlier stressful life experiences may have been significant from the affected person's point of view. We interviewed people who have been diagnosed with a psychotic disorder (e.g. schizophrenia) for the first time in the last 5 years or who have received treatment for the first time for this reason. Data has been collected and is now being evaluated.
